President Obama delivered his final speech to the U.N. General Assembly on Sept. 20, 2016. Throughout the speech, he admonished world leaders that all countries need to conform to global tolerance, integration and to reject any form of nationalism or traditional beliefs.
Much of the speech can be seen in a positive light by freedom loving people everywhere who value peace, liberty and prosperity. The danger, though, is to elevate Obama's global goals above all else so that the ‘ends justify the means’. For example, to achieve peace and to eliminate fundamental Islamic terrorism, we shouldn’t have to reject all forms of fundamental belief systems.
Fundamental beliefs are not only about terrorism. For example, here's a fundamental Christian belief called redemption. This is the belief that Jesus died on the cross for our sin and that salvation is available to anyone who accepts Jesus as their savior. This is foundational to the Christian faith. There are many others, of course, but to be told by global elitists what is acceptable to believe and what is not acceptable is antithetical to liberty and elevates so-called tolerance above what many believe is the truth of God’s word.
In his lengthy speech, Barack Obama said we must reject any form of fundamentalism. Notice that he didn’t mean just fundamental terroristic beliefs.
“We must reject any forms of fundamentalism, or racism, or a belief in ethnic superiority that makes our traditional identities irreconcilable with modernity. Instead we need to embrace the tolerance that results from respect of all human beings.” [Emphasis added]
There is agreement that terrorism, racism and ethnic superiority are bad things, but to say that all forms of fundamental beliefs need to be rejected and they’re irreconcilable with modernity makes one wonder what type of world globalists are trying to create.
Modernity Today
We live in a world where moralists are no longer bible thumping preachers, but rather are those who champion today’s political correctness. To be modern in today’s society you must adopt the politically correct ideas that are espoused by our cultural and political elites.
It’s these elites who want to impose their morality, as they define it, on the rest of society and to diminish any other belief or thought as racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamaphobic or whatever other label of intolerance they can come up with. They want to silence any decent that runs contrary to their rules on tolerance. At the same time, they will alienate modernity non-believers by classifying them as irredeemable so that the rest of enlightened society can progress to their version of utopia without them.
The progressive left has long perpetrated these ideas on modern society, but for the President of the United States to call for a total rejection of all forms of fundamental beliefs has elevated these politically correct goals to a new level. In Obama’s mind, it is now a call to action.
If Hillary Clinton becomes President, the assault on Christianity will continue. Perhaps with “hate speech” laws or other laws that will restrict personal beliefs about morality in a public setting. The real assault, however, will be to continue to label any person who disagrees with their version of morality as deplorable and hateful. This type of societal demonization is what creates the progressive’s largest number of converts. People don't want to be labeled as a hater; they want to be good members of society.
People of fundamental beliefs may still have an opportunity in today’s modern society to compete with the politically correct ideology. We’re not marginalized yet and can still pray and vote in this election to elect Donald Trump and other conservatives to office. It is our call to action.
